Myrtle Cottage
Myrtle Cottage, a traditional, granite-built, Scillonian
cottage, is situated at Highertown in a large garden which
slopes southwards and allows a wonderful view of The Cove
and all the boating activity that happens there.
The cottage sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms, 2 double
and 1 twin-bedded. Downstairs comprises a comfy sitting
room (with lots of books, games and a t.v. and video) a
well equipped kitchen and a large dining room. The conservatory,
which provides a sunny refuge when winds are chill leads
into the garden.
A shower room and separate lavatory complete the ground
floor.(As water is always scarce on The Island there is
no bath and guests are requested to be careful with water
consumption.)
Electricity is £1 coin-metered and bed-linen and towels
are provided, if required, at a cost of £10 per person
per stay.
All rooms have electric heaters for use during the cooler
months. As our own cottage is close by we are usually on
hand if required to help with any holiday queries etc. and
Myrtle Cottage is just 5 minutes from the main quay and
a few minutes from beaches and The General Stores and Post
Office. The Pub, The Turks Head, is situated near the quay
and serves lunches and dinner with a view of the harbour.
The stores will be happy to make up a grocery order for
you to be delivered prior to your arrival and milk may be
ordered to be delivered to your door daily along with other
fresh farm produce. We will happily make arrangements for
this in advance.
Adrian meets our guests and their luggage when they arrive
on St. Agnes and transports it to The Cottage. We are fortunate
in having a St. Agnes boat service and it is worth bearing
in mind that this leaves The main Island, St. Marys at 12.30
daily for St. Agnes when booking your other travel. It is
possible to hire boats to fit in with other arrangements
and, again, we are very happy to advise and book this service
for you.
The
Hump Chalet
The Hump chalet (so called because of the cairn of rock
of the same name on which it is built!) is situated on our
farm in its own green field away from it all at the highest
point of Highertown and has stupendous views over The Cove,
Gugh Island and towards St. Marys . The Hump was converted
as holiday accommodation from a granite barn in the 1960s
by the family and has been enjoyed by holiday-makers(artists,
writers and others) who have appreciated its privacy and
unique charm ever since.
The accommodation comprises a sitting room with books,
t.v./dvd, a basic but well-equipped kitchen, a bedroom with
either double or twin beds and a shower and lavatory. All
rooms with fabulous views. Bed linen and towels provided
at a charge of £10 per person and electricity coin
metered. There are electric heaters in all rooms.
As with Myrtle Cottage milk delivery and advance grocery
order can be arranged and we will meet you and convey your
luggage to The Hump on arrival.
